Bikul Tulachan is currently working on a project which seeks to introduce Emissions Trading Schemes (ETS) in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. The project also seeks to evaluate these schemes and see if they enable lower pollution levels at lower overall costs of compliance. He is also providing assistance on a project which seeks to identify the barriers which prevent Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) from taking up energy efficient measures.
Prior to joining J-PAL South Asia, Bikul was with the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) where he was working on a project on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation. During his junior year in college, he successfully led a field research project which studied cost and benefit sharing mechanisms among communal Micro-Hydro Plants (MHPs) in rural Nepal.
