Assistant Director

Ford Program in Human Development Studies and Solidarity

University of Notre Dame

The Ford Program in Human Development Studies and Solidarity is seeking an engaging Assistant Director to assist the Director in developing and implementing its dynamic intellectual and programmatic vision. The Ford Program is an established international research program dedicated to research and service that promotes Integral Human Development, a holistic model of flourishing rooted in a person’s dignity and full potential.

This role provides a rare opportunity to refine the program’s vision and strategy at a time of change and growth. The Assistant Director will be responsible for working closely with the Director on the management of priority research and administration tasks, while benefitting from the infrastructure and international partnerships built by the previous director, as well as the network and organization of the Kellogg Institute for International Studies and the University of Notre Dame.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic development (in consultation with the Director) of the program;
  • Identification and facilitation of research opportunities and collaboration, development of new opportunities, and maintenance of research continuity;
  • Represents the program in meetings with government officials, business executives, NGO leaders, and other key stakeholders on the global stage;
  • Manage grants and externally-funded research projects as well as internal research grants awarded by the Program to Kellogg Institute Faculty Fellows; and
  • Supervise all Ford Program operations, including financial coordination, communications and marketing, outreach, staff supervision, and Ford Program-affiliated programming and events.

The Assistant Director works independently, receiving general direction from the Ford Program Director, and collaborates directly with faculty and research team members. The Assistant Director is someone with a range of administration experience, including in operations and research development and management. While working autonomously, the Assistant Director collaborates with numerous Kellogg Institute staff, including the Business Manager and Staff Accountant regarding financial operations, payments, and compliance; the Gifts and Grants Project Manager regarding the development of grant proposals, proposals to potential donors, and other documents that facilitate the growth of the Ford Program’s research portfolio.
