The Egypt Impact Lab (EIL) is a collaboration between the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MPED) and J-PAL MENA at AUC. EIL seeks to strengthen evidence-informed policy and improve development outcomes for Egyptians. The Lab was launched in 2022 with several strategic government and founding donor partners. The outcomes of EIL are to evaluate promising and innovative government programs and use results to inform scale decisions; build government capacity to use rigorous evidence to strengthen program design and delivery; and foster the use of partner ministries’ administrative data to generate evidence and improve decision-making.

The Egypt Impact Lab Data Analyst will support the Lab’s goal of strengthening the use of administrative data to improve program delivery and policy design, using administrative data to facilitate impact evaluation, and ultimately strengthening the effectiveness of national development programs. The Analyst will work on data preparation, documentation, and analysis and will work closely with senior leadership of the Lab within MPED and at J-PAL MENA, including with researchers from Egypt and from the J-PAL network. The Data Analyst will leverage exceptional data analysis, research, organization, and communications skills. This position will be hired at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.


Data preparation:

  • Clean, prepare, organize and facilitate access to different types of administrative as well as survey datasets.
  • Extract and link data from multiple data sources for statistical analysis.


  • Prepare detailed, clear, and organized documentation for different data sources.
  • Support creating training manuals on data analysis.

Data analysis:

  • Assess data quality
  • Identify systematic patterns in data, develop models
  • Implement program codes in STATA and/or R, and perform high-quality statistical analysis, including regression analysis.


  • Assist in dissemination of findings through the preparation of policy reports, academic articles, presentations, websites, and other research outlets.
  • Visualize the data in meaningful ways and develop

presentations/briefs/insights to share with different stakeholders in EIL

strategic government partner agencies.


  • Any other relevant tasks assigned by the EIL senior management team including but not limited to literature survey and offering support in preparation of meetings and presentations for developing new partnerships


Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in economics, public policy, or a closely related field

Coursework in microeconomics, econometrics, and development economics required


  • Minimum 2 years of experience, including work as a research assistant or other programming/coding roles
  • Hands on experience in STATA and/or R with a preference for those who also know Python or other similar programming languages.
  • Experience working with large datasets is required.
  • Familiarity with statistical tools such as linear regression is required and familiarity with machine learning techniques and randomized controlled trials is preferred.
