Akshara is a Policy Associate at J-PAL Global. She conducts research, policy synthesis, and policy outreach on evidence related to gender equity as a member of J-PAL’s Gender sector team, and serves as a staff liaison between J-PAL and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Prior to joining J-PAL, Akshara participated in field research for several development projects in India, including qualitative data collection for an evaluation of a vocational training program for construction workers.
Akshara holds a master of development practice degree from UC Berkeley. As a graduate student, she helped create a monitoring and evaluation framework for the employability education organization, Medha, in Lucknow, India. Her master’s thesis focused on sanitation facilities in schools in Bihar, India and school enrollment among young girls. Akshara holds a bachelor’s degree in economics, politics, and philosophy from the Symbiosis School of Liberal Arts in Pune, India.
