Joy Kiiru

Joy Kiiru is a part-time Policy and Research Advisor for the Gender and Economic Agency (GEA) Initiative at J-PAL. She is based in Nairobi, Kenya and her work focuses on the East Africa Region (Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda). She plays a key role in developing partnerships with governments, nonprofits, universities, and researchers in the region and to ensure that GEA research is well linked with local policy priorities to drive evidence based policies on women’s work and economic agency.
Joy Kiiru is also a senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi. She has consulted for various organizations including the UN Women and the Trade Policy Centre in Africa, among others, on issues of gender and women’s participation in economic activities. Joy holds a PhD from Bonn University; Germany; a Masters degree (Economics) from University of Malawi and a BA (Economics) from the University of Nairobi.
