The Chair of Econometrics at the University of Mannheim and the Center for Evaluation and Development (C4ED), Germany, are looking for a Post-Doc/ Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist to join the team of impact evaluators. An excellent command in English is a must, French, Spanish, and/or Russian are expressly desired.

With a strong focus on quantitative impact evaluations, we are one of the leading research centers in the areas of poverty reduction, microfinance, health insurance, education, humanitarian assistance, and nutrition in Germany. Our vision is to improve the lives of the poor and the vulnerable by making development interventions more effective. C4ED currently conducts projects all over the world and maintains research relationships with 3ie, ACTED, IFAD, ILO, IPA, J-PAL, the World Bank, and UNICEF to name just a few of our cooperation partners.

Your tasks would include

  • Conducting experimental or quasi-experimental impact evaluation studies with a particular focus on Randomized Control Trials (RCTs)
  • Report-writing, research and scientific publications in applied econometrics, statistics or survey methodology as well as reporting
  • Application of and teaching in advanced applied econometrics, statistics or survey methods
  • Preparing grants and applications for projects
  • Provide capacity building
  • Conduct and oversee large-scale data collections (incl. high-frequency data checks)
  • Ensure project deliverables are prepared on time and are of high quality
  • Closely cooperating with local partners
  • Set-up monitoring system
  • Project management

You have a PhD, or will soon defend your PhD in economics, econometrics or statistics. Holding a Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics or Social Sciences and having five years of relevant working experience is equivalent. You have proven quantitative skills including conducting primary data collections as well as comprehensive reporting skills (quantitative analysis of data sets and report writing). You have analyzed large-scale survey data, applying methods of causal inference. You have already gained field experience and are eager to supervise large-scale household surveys in Africa, Asia and Latin America, in particular in South Asia. Skills in qualitative data collection and mixed method analysis would be a plus.

You will work within a growing, supportive team of experienced international researchers. The position offers a good opportunity to deepen your expertise in applied econometrics, impact evaluations, and survey methodology as well as project management skills. We are interested to provide you a medium to long-term job perspective. As we are working internationally, excellent oral and written communication skills in English are a must, while excellent oral and written communication skills either in French, Spanish or Russian are highly desirable.

The position can be full-time or part-time. The gross monthly salary ranges between 3800 and 4200 Euro, depending on the level of your prior professional experience. The salary will be prorated for part-time positions accordingly. If required, please also enclose your valid work/residence permit.
