Stage 1: September - December 2019
Selected applicants will be awarded scholarships to complete the certified track of the online MITx MicroMasters course Designing and Running Randomized Evaluations, in which they will learn how to design and implement randomized evaluations in the field to measure the impact of social programs.

Stage 2: May - August 2020
Selected students will be provided an opportunity to support an ongoing J-PAL randomized evaluation in India for a minimum of 2 months, enabling them to understand the practical aspects of setting up and implementing a randomized evaluation in the field. In addition, they will be invited to attend an in-person training led by J-PAL staff on primary data collection in the field, including how to choose appropriate indicators, design good survey instruments, pilot and refine a survey, and develop field protocols. What Previous RFI Fellows Have to Say

"What's great about the Research for Impact Fellowship is that it is designed to also let you engage with your PhD work in parallel. Overall, the Fellowship is a great opportunity for Indian doctoral candidates to learn about randomized evaluations and methodical robustness of primary data collection, topics which are still novel in the Indian context."
- Ambika Chopra (Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai)

“The different stages of the Research for Impact Fellowship were designed really well and were a great learning experience for me. The knowledge I've gained through the Fellowship is definitely going to help in my career as an academic. Thank you for the opportunity!”
- Balu Pawde (Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai)
