Nutritional Supports for At‐Risk Patients

Cardiovascular diseases are by far the leading causes of death in the United States, with over 800,000 deaths annually. Approximately 1 in 4 Americans with cardiometabolic conditions such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes experience food insecurity, which is suspected to be a major, modifiable risk factor for these health conditions. This pilot study seeks to determine the feasibility of a randomized evaluation of two interventions targeting the diets of low-income patients at high risk of cardiovascular disease: (1) helping patients enroll in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and (2) providing medically‐tailored meals directly to patients.
