Ali Cheema is the Vice Chancellor of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), and an Associate Professor of Economics. His research focuses on gender, political economy and governance. His recent research focuses on how political and wealth inequality shape representation and fiscal equity, the determinants of citizen trust, and the role of gender norms and violence as barriers to women’s political and civic participation.

He is also the co-founder of the Center for Economic Research in Pakistan, a Senior Research Fellow of IDEAS, and a co-lead academic of the International Growth Center’s Pakistan program. Ali’s recent work has appeared in the Journal of Political Economy, the American Political Science Review, Science, Science, and PS: Political Science and Politics.

Ali holds a PhD in economics from the University of Cambridge.
