Course overview

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform the lives of hundreds of millions, and an increasing number of organizations are leveraging AI for social good. This immersive, three-day workshop equips participants with foundational tools to explore how to evaluate the impact of their AI solutions and how to integrate findings into their work. The series provides an in-depth look at impact evaluation and practical training for exploring one’s own evaluation.

Sessions will incorporate real-world examples from randomized evaluations of AI interventions across a variety of themes. Participants will join a community of practice with fellow decision-makers and J-PAL experts who can support in the design and use of impact evaluations.

Course format

J-PAL affiliated researchers and senior J-PAL staff with extensive experience implementing randomized evaluations will lead interactive virtual lecture sessions on when and how to generate rigorous evidence to inform decision-making. Through small-group discussions with J-PAL staff and peers, participants will have the opportunity to solidify concepts and discuss how they might apply these to their work.

Following the workshop, participants interested in exploring a randomized evaluation of their intervention will have the opportunity to be matched with researchers from the J-PAL network to design an evaluation plan and jointly apply for evaluation funding through the Partnership for AI Evidence.
