J-PAL and UC Berkeley’s Center for Effective Global Action are excited to launch the Digital Agricultural Innovations and Services Initiative's (DAISI) Regional Scholars program. As part of the Fall 2022 Request for Proposals, we offer research funding to eligible resident sub-Saharan African and South Asian scholars. This webinar will introduce DAISI’s funding priorities and provide information for Regional Scholars about best practices in applying for funding.

DAISI is dedicated to generating rigorous, policy-relevant evidence based on the availability, quality, and reach of bundled digital agricultural solutions and services for small-scale agricultural producers in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. We are excited to present funding opportunities for resident African and South Asian scholars—those who have completed a PhD in economics or a related field and are based at an academic institution in sub-Saharan Africa or South Asia.

Regional Scholars are eligible to apply for travel or proposal development grants (up to US$10,000) and pilot grants (up to US$75,000). Regional Scholars who have successfully completed a pilot study funded by DAISI are eligible to apply for full randomized evaluation funding (up to US$500,000). Targeted mentorship will be provided to scholars who receive funds from DAISI.

In addition to providing an overview of the research agenda and the Regional Scholars program, staff will share information on best practices for applying to DAISI, discuss eligibility, and engage in a Q&A session.
