Deputy Executive Director, J-PAL África

Clare Hofmeyr is Deputy Executive Director and Associate Director of Education and Training at J-PAL Africa. In her dual role, she provides organizational leadership across J-PAL Africa's operations while leading its Education and Training division. Her work focuses on building research and evaluation capacity across sub-Saharan Africa — designing and delivering training programmes for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers, and developing institutional partnerships that expand access to rigorous evidence. She also coordinates J-PAL's efforts to increase the representation of African researchers within J-PAL's global network and in experimental economics more broadly.

Prior to joining the J-PAL team in 2021, Clare worked in monitoring and evaluation at mothers2mothers and Firdale Consulting. Her earlier experience includes policy writing, communications, and training at SALDRU, as well as at J-PAL Africa itself, where she was part of the founding team when the office opened in 2010.

Clare holds a Master's in Applied Economics from the University of Cape Town and a Bachelor's in Economics and Finance from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
