Aya Metwaly

Research Associate, J-PAL Middle East and North Africa

Aya Metwaly is a Research Associate at J-PAL Middle East and North Africa. She works on impact evaluations in the areas of agriculture and financial inclusion. She is currently working on an evaluation examining the impact of different interest rates on microenterprise development and borrowers’ financial behavior in Egypt. She also works on the Economy of Love evaluation, which measures the farm-level environmental and economic benefits of carbon credits in Egyptian agriculture. In addition, she has supported quality assurance activities for an impact evaluation focused on women's economic empowerment.

Prior to joining J-PAL MENA, Aya gained experience in journalism, human rights, banking, and policy research through internships at Al Ahram Hebdo, Maat for Peace, Banque Misr, and the Synergies Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Aya holds a BA in Economics from the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science at Alexandria University and is interested in development economics, public policy, and impact evaluation.
