Atif Anwar

Atif Anwar is a Research Associate at J-PAL South Asia, where he works on the Smart Metering Evaluation project in Bihar, applying causal inference methods to large-scale administrative electricity data. 

Prior to joining J-PAL in 2025, he was an Academic Associate at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, where he worked on projects examining labor market transitions and political economy using survey and administrative data. He has also worked with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi on research studying gender gaps in STEM disciplines.

Atif holds a MA in Economics from Azim Premji University Bengaluru and a BA in Economics from Aligarh Muslim University. His master’s thesis examined poverty, growth, and inequality across Indian states using panel data, and his research also includes work on changing spousal views on gender norms in India.
