Sarah Elbakry

Sarah Elbakry is a Senior Research Manager at J-PAL Middle East and North Africa at the American University in Cairo where she works on evaluating the impact of an education technology intervention at Darsel on the learning and socio-emotional outcomes of grade 6 mathematics students in Jordan and on evaluating the social costs of debtors' prisons in Egypt and the financial market consequences of their abolishment.

Prior to joining J-PAL in 2025, she worked as an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of London and as the Associate Director of the Experimental and Behavioural Economics Lab at the British University in Egypt.

Sarah holds a PhD degree in Economics from Cairo University.
