Martina is the Carl Bennet & Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Professor in Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics and the Executive Director of Misum (Mistra Center of Sustainability Center).

She is a CEPR Research Fellow and a BREAD Affiliate. Martina's research focuses on topics in development economics related to child health, public service delivery, and how to improve primary education in low-income countries. Most of her research projects are randomized controlled trials implemented in sub-Saharan Africa and India that evaluate and examine innovative policy programs aimed to improve child health and learning outcomes.

Martina's research has appeared in leading journals including the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of the European Economic Association, the American Economic Journal – Applied Economics, the Journal of Development Economics, and Nature Medicine. Her research has received public interest in international and Swedish media, including on Swedish television and in the Economist, Washington Post, NPR radio, Huffington Post, and New York Times blogs. Before joining SSE, she was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics at Bocconi University in Italy. 

Martina holds a PhD in Economics from the Institute for International Economic Studies at Stockholm University.

She has served as a lecturer at J-PAL training events.
