Egypt’s labor market is highly segmented, with women concentrated in specific occupations. Norms that prioritize jobs for men over women when jobs are scarce may also lead to employer discrimination during economic difficulty.

Researchers are conducting a randomized evaluation to assess employer discrimination by randomizing applicants' self-described gender and marital status on resumes submitted to prospective employers.
