Senior Manager of Finance and Operations, J-PAL Global

Carlos Guzman is the Senior Manager of Finance and Operations at J-PAL Global at MIT, where he oversees financial and research operations for the organization’s Agriculture and Social Protection sectors. His portfolio includes major initiatives such as the Agricultural Technology Adoption Initiative (ATAI), the Digital Agricultural Innovations and Services Initiative (DAISI), the UM6P–J-PAL Agricultural Lab for Africa (UJALA), the Social Protection Initiative (SPI), and the Science for Progress Initiative (SfPI).

Carlos also manages the research portfolio of J-PAL Faculty Director Ben Olken and collaborates with key stakeholders at the Center for International Development at Harvard and J-PAL Southeast Asia, based at the University of Indonesia.

In his role, Carlos oversees all payments and operational procedures, guides strategic planning, drives operational system improvements, coaches J-PAL staff across India, Morocco, and Cambridge, USA, and manages a wide range of ad hoc projects across the J-PAL Global office.

Prior to joining J-PAL, Carlos held finance and research operations roles in higher education and government institutions, including MIT, Northeastern University, and the Rhode Island House of Representatives Finance Committee.

Carlos earned the Advanced Certificate for Executives (ACE) in Management, Innovation, and Technology from the MIT Sloan School of Management in June 2025. He also holds a Master of Arts in Development Economics from the University of Göttingen, a Master of Science in International Affairs from Northeastern University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Massachusetts Boston.
