Rakean Radya Al Barra

Research Associate, J-PAL Southeast Asia
Rakean is a Research Associate at J-PAL Southeast Asia, where he currently works on projects related to social protection for poverty reduction and is also assisting the urban transportation project.
Prior to joining J-PAL in 2025, he had experience in product management for an agritech start-up, assisting with research for a local coordinating ministry, and conducting impact evaluations for companies in a university-based consulting service. He previously completed an internship in J-PAL Southeast Asia with a project about evidence-to-policy pathways in Indonesia’s regional governments.
Rakean earned his BS in engineering management with a specialization in manufacturing from Institut Teknologi Bandung, where he led a field-work-based conjoint experiment targeting aquaculture farmers for his undergraduate thesis. His research interests include inequality, poverty alleviation, labor/manpower, industrialization, and industrial organization.
