J-PAL’s Post-Primary Education (PPE) Initiative funds randomized evaluations that develop and test innovative solutions for improving access, quality, equity, and relevance of post-primary education in low- and middle-income countries.

The PPE Initiative aims to generate a body of rigorous evidence through systematic research on open questions in secondary, tertiary, and vocational/entrepreneurial education. Knowledge gaps include questions about pedagogy, the role of information communication technology, the design of teacher incentives, strategies to include and support disadvantaged students, the role of private schools, and mechanisms to increase the demand for schooling among students and their parents.
