Senior Policy Associate, J-PAL South Asia

Sushant Pawar is a Senior Policy Associate at J-PAL South Asia, where he works on the scale-up of the Every Child Counts (Math Games) programme in India. His work focuses on strengthening partnerships, working with teacher and master trainer, and coordinating implementation across multiple geographies including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and North India.

At J-PAL, Sushant engages with government departments and NGO partners, contributes to policy advocacy, and supports research pilots and ecosystem adoption efforts for early-grade mathematics and literacy. He has played a key role in sustaining and deepening J-PAL’s work with Maharashtra’s education system, while also supporting cross-state programme expansion and strengthening institutional knowledge.

Prior to joining J-PAL, Sushant worked as a mathematics educator and teacher trainer with institutions including IISER Pune and the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE - TIFR), and taught high school mathematics. He holds an MSc in mathematics from the University of Mumbai and has cleared the State Eligibility Test for assistant professorship in Maharashtra and Goa.
