ESII training for partners: Conceiving a Randomized Evaluation

Workshop or Training
Location:
Paris School of Economics, 48 Boulevard Jourdan, 75014, Paris, France

The European Social Inclusion Initiative (ESII) is a multi-year research initiative that aims to generate new evidence and share emerging lessons for programs and policies seeking to foster the social inclusion of migrants and refugees. New randomized evaluations will be funded through a Request for Proposals (RFP) that will be launched in May 2019.

J-PAL Europe offers a three-day training to organizations that are interested in forming a research partnership with a J-PAL-affiliated researcher to answer the RFP but that would like to better understand the practicalities of running a randomized evaluation in greater detail. The training will be held in English and will tackle the following points:

  •     What is impact and what are the methodological challenges of impact evaluations
  •     What are the key concepts and vocabulary of impact evaluation
  •     What are ethical requirements and processes
  •     How to design a randomized evaluation
  •     How to build the theory of change, select indicators and identify data sources
  •     How to calculate sample size
  •     How to manage threats to validity
  •     What are the requirements in terms of human resources
  •     How to deal with different stakeholders
  •     How to create a budget for an evaluation

The training will be taught by J-PAL affiliated researchers and senior staff. It will consist in interactive workshops and group work.

The training is free of charge. Participants will be selected based on the relevance of their project. Travel to Paris and accommodation in Paris should be paid by participants, but a limited number may receive support from ESII to cover their logistical costs.

If you are interested in participating in this training, please fill this online form before April 12, 2019. For questions, please contact Ilf Bencheikh at [email protected]
