Prospera is a subsidy program that gives educational grants to the poorest families in rural Mexico. The program is designed to target only the very poorest families and aims to reduce differential schooling rates between the poor and wealthy households. The program was originally known as PROGRESA (Programa de Educación, Salud, y Alimentación) in 1997, was restructured and renamed to Oportunidades in 2002, and renamed Prospera in 2014.
