Pablo Chaves de Castro

Pablo Castro is a Senior Research Associate at J-PAL LAC, where he analyzes the Brazilian labor market using large administrative datasets and supports the implementation of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) in collaboration with the federal government. He currently works on the evaluation of Brazil’s Wage Transparency Law, engaging with government monitoring and evaluation units to inform evidence-based policy. Prior to joining J-PAL, Pablo worked at the Climate Policy Initiative in Brazil on issues related to climate change and sustainable agriculture. He also served as a Research Assistant and Operational Coordinator at DataZoom, a Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) initiative to improve access to Brazilian household survey and labor microdata. Pablo holds a PhD in economics from the PUC-Rio, a master’s degree in economics from the University of Brasília (UnB), and was a visiting student at the University of California, Berkeley during his doctoral studies.
