Marcella Alsan is a Professor of Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. Marcella’s research focuses on the relationship between health and socioeconomic disparities with an emphasis on infectious disease. She uses randomized evaluations and historical public health natural experiments to explore the interactions between infectious disease, human capital, and economic outcomes. Another vein of research focuses on the microfoundations of antibiotic overuse and resistance. Marcella earned a master’s in international public health from the Harvard School of Public Health, an MD from Loyola University, and a PhD in economics from Harvard University.

Marcella has served as a lecturer at J-PAL training events, and on the review boards of J-PAL's Invited Researcher Selection Committee and Health Care Delivery Initiative (HCDI).
