Digital Identification For Poverty Alleviation In Malawi: Pilot Study

This project supports the Government of Malawi in integrating its national digital ID system with social protection programs and administrative databases to strengthen service delivery and improve coordination across agencies. In partnership with the National Registration Bureau (NRB), researchers are assessing the quality and completeness of existing registration data and exploring methods to link national ID records with the Universal Beneficiary Registry (UBR). The study aims to identify the institutional, technical, and data management requirements needed for seamless integration, laying the groundwork for future research and policy efforts to expand the use of digital IDs within Malawi’s social protection systems.
