Sarah Elbakry

Senior Research Manager, J-PAL Middle East and North Africa
Sarah Elbakry is a Senior Research Manager at J-PAL Middle East and North Africa where she works on evaluating the impact of an EdTech intervention (Darsel) on the learning and socio-emotional outcomes of grade 6 mathematics students in Jordan and on evaluating the social costs of debtors' prisons in Egypt and the financial market consequences of their abolishment.
Prior to joining J-PAL in 2025, she worked as an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of London (European Universities in Egypt) and as the Associate Director of the Experimental and Behavioural Economics Lab at the British University in Egypt.
Sarah holds a PhD in Economics from Cairo University.
