Senior Research Associate, J-PAL South Asia

Hitasha is a Senior Research Associate on the Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme for Electricity in Punjab, which aims to evaluate the impact of monetary incentives to farmers as an encouragement to reduce groundwater consumption. She has previously worked on the Emissions Trading Scheme for Particulate Matter in Gujarat. Her research interests include environment and climate change, gender, public health, and income and wealth inequality.

Prior to joining J-PAL, Hitasha worked as an RA with the Economic Research Foundation. During her masters’, she worked on a study for UN ECLAC looking at capital flow regulations in Africa. She holds a master's degree in Economics from the Centre of Economic Studies and Planning, JNU and a bachelors’ in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi. She received the EXIM Bank Scholarship for her academic performance in JNU.

She is a part-time amateur poet and enjoys travelling, reading and drowning in music.
