Medio Ambiente y Energía

Acceso confiable a energías baratas puede incrementar ingresos, mejorar la salud y, en general, mejorar el bienestar de las personas. Sin embargo, la mala calidad del medio ambiente – normalmente como resultado de la producción energética – amenaza el bienestar de generaciones actuales y futuras. Muchas políticas de energía y de medio ambiente son seleccionadas sin calcular sus costos y beneficios, ya que no existe información de confianza sobre el impacto causal de estas políticas. La Iniciativa Ambiental y de Energía de J-PAL busca realizar evaluaciones aleatorias que identifiquen soluciones con alta ración de costo-efectividad para los desafíos ambientales y energéticos que enfrentan los países en desarrollo. Los afiliados de J-PAL ya están investigando cómo mejorar la regulación de contaminantes, los efectos de estufas limpias en la salud y el medio ambiente y los pagos condicionales por la conservación de bosques.
