J-PAL Europe, based at the Paris School of Economics, builds partnerships for evidence-informed policymaking across Europe and Central Asia by fostering the development of new randomised evaluations and helping partners draw on existing rigorous evidence to design and scale effective programmes. We also lend support to J-PAL’s work in francophone Africa.
About us
Our research network and staff work with partners to design randomised evaluations that will sharpen our collective understanding of how best to address poverty and climate change. We also help partners use existing evidence to develop more effective social policy and development cooperation, and train them to harness the power of rigorous impact evaluations in their work.
Our research looks at questions as broad as how to promote access to higher-quality education, how to match jobseekers to better opportunities for work, how to support measures to improve air quality, and how to improve the effectiveness of humanitarian action.
From research to impact across Europe and Central Asia

Governance
Research by J-PAL affiliated researchers in Europe in the Political Economy and Governance sector has focused on evaluating measures to increase electoral participation across Europe as well as how simple tweaks to how governments collect taxes can increase compliance.
Labour
J-PAL affiliates have conducted rigorous evaluations of programmes aiming to help jobseekers (re)enter the labour force, foster skills in entrepreneurship among youth, increase demand for labour, and reduce discrimination in hiring.
