The economic damage of Covid-19 represents the largest economic shock the world has experienced in decades. The crisis highlights the need for urgent action to cushion the pandemic’s health and economic consequences, protect vulnerable populations, and set the stage for a lasting recovery. For emerging market and developing countries, many of which face daunting vulnerabilities, it is critical to strengthen public health systems, address the challenges posed by informality, and implement reforms that will support strong and sustainable growth once the health crisis abates. In Indonesia, the Covid-19 pandemic has caused significant economic disruption, with adverse impact on jobs and livelihoods, especially among the most vulnerable segments of society.

To further support the important work for economic recovery and resilience post-Covid pandemic in Indonesia, the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab Southeast Asia (J-PAL SEA) is hosting a public webinar, “Emerging challenges for the post-Covid era: Addressing opportunity, inequality, and growth” featuring HE Sri Mulyani, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia and Professor Abhijit Banerjee, Nobel Laureate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The webinar will be moderated by Dr M. Chatib Basri, a well-known researcher who currently acts as Senior Partner of Creco Research. This webinar will provide insights into the Government of Indonesia’s policy directions and learnings from global evidence about challenges faced in different sectors including health, inequality, and environment. The webinar will be a platform to bring together actors working in the economic and development sector and the general public to disseminate and also enrich the discussion on solving post-pandemic challenges in Indonesia.
