Laura Schechter is the Olav F. and Elsie de Noyer Anderson-Bascom Professor of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research looks at how social preferences impact economic outcomes in low- and middle-income countries and how they can be harnessed to improve outcomes. Laura has researched how to measure vulnerability, the relationship between reciprocity and vote-buying, and the relationship between receptiveness to advice and technology adoption. Her current projects focus on extension agent performance in Paraguay and the adoption of sanitation technologies in urban Senegal. Laura received her PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Laura has served on J-PAL's King Climate Action Initiative (K-CAI) and Agricultural Technology Adoption Initiative (ATAI) Review Boards.
