Job summary

The Development Innovation Lab (DIL) is seeking a full-time Assistant Director. The successful candidate will work to advance initiatives, provide high-level leadership support, lead fundraising efforts, and liaise with diverse stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of project deliverables and organizational goals. This position is well-suited for someone looking to take their first step in a leadership role while making significant contributions to organizational success.

Responsibilities

  • Lead oversight of DIL projects including tracking priorities, managing meeting agendas, overseeing budgets and reporting, and managing activities to ensure execution of project goals; identify and recommend improvements for increased efficiency (20%)
  • Lead fundraising efforts, including drafting proposals and building relationships with potential donors (20%)
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and external organizations; share assessments and analyses with stakeholders through meetings, presentations, and written communications (20%)
  • Provide senior-level support to prepare leaders for high-level events, and manage engagements (10%)
  • Lead implementation and scale-up activities for department projects, including piloting, roll-out, and monitoring activities (10%)
  • Create policy documents, resources and presentations that synthesize findings and strategic implications (10%)
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to junior staff and project team members; support recruitment efforts (5%)
  • Other duties as assigned (5%)

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • 7-9 years of relevant professional experience
  • Strong track record of managing complex projects, budgets and teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work diplomatically with diverse stakeholders
  • Self-motivated with ability to identify and recommend improvement opportunities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience in one or more sectors related to DIL’s work (including agriculture, education, water treatment and child health)

Working conditions

Candidates must be willing to travel extensively and flexibly as needed for their respective responsibilities.

This is a hybrid position, with an expected 3 days in-person per week. Candidates will be expected to flexibly come into the office as needed.
