Short-Term Consultant, Research Assistant, SWEDD Champions of Change Impact Evaluation - World Bank Africa Gender Innovation Lab
Summary of the Organization:
The World Bank's Africa Gender Innovation Lab (GIL) seeks to identify effective policies to address gender inequality in Africa, particularly in promoting women's economic opportunity and social empowerment. GIL produces new evidence for decision-makers in government and the private sector on what does and does not work in addressing the underlying causes of gender inequality, and on how best to close gender gaps in earnings, productivity, assets, property rights, and agency. GIL carries out rigorous impact evaluations of gender-innovative interventions in the areas of agricultural productivity, entrepreneurship, employment, and economic empowerment in Africa.
Summary of the Role:
The Africa GIL is recruiting a Short-Term Consultant (STC) Research Assistant for data cleaning and analysis of the baseline data of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) and the write-up of a baseline report. The impact evaluation assesses the effects of the Champions of Change (CoC) intervention, implemented by Plan International Benin as part of the broader "Plan pour les filles" project funded by Global Affairs Canada, targeting adolescent girls and young women aged 10 to 24. The study is conducted in Benin, in the departments of Atacora, Plateau, and Oueme, as part of the Sahel Women's Empowerment and Demographic Dividend (SWEDD) project and the GIRL initiative. Baseline data collection was carried out between March 2026 and May 2026. The position is for 30 working days, starting in July 2026, with possible extension based on performance. The consultant can be based in Europe or in the US and will report to the Impact Evaluation Research Team: Sarah Deschenes (AGIL), Rozenn Hotte (University of Tours), Nina Buchmann (UC Berkeley), and Yasmine Bekkouche (Jacobs Foundation).
Responsibilities:
- Process and clean datasets, ensuring data integrity and consistency, including with the survey tools.
- Develop clear, reproducible code in Stata for tasks including data cleaning and basic descriptive analysis.
- Contribute to the production of outputs such as tables and figures that will be used in the analysis of the baseline data and integrated into a baseline report.
- Uphold high standards of analytical rigor and ensure timely completion of all tasks.
Qualifications:
- A degree in economics, public policy, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in Stata.
- Strong oral and written communication skills in French.
- Experience working in Benin and knowledge of the context is appreciated.
- Experience working on adolescent girls' interventions, with a focus on sexual and reproductive health and education in the Sahel region, is valued.
- Excellent management and organizational skills along with strong quantitative skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work autonomously.
- Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and a team player.
