Adaptation to Climate Change in Egypt: Assessing the Role of Information Frictions

The livelihoods of farmers in Egypt are increasingly threatened by climate change. Many farmers, however, hold misconceptions about its effects on agriculture and are unaware of effective adaptation strategies.

This study will test whether providing households with information about climate change and on-farm adaptation practices influences their agricultural decisions. In addition, a subset of households in both treatment and comparison groups will be offered off-farm adaptation opportunities. This design will measure the impact of reducing information gaps on agricultural practices and non-agricultural employment, and assess whether the returns to off-the-farm opportunities are higher for households facing less information frictions.
