Measuring Farm-Level Environmental and Social Benefits of Carbon Credits in Egyptian Agriculture
Carbon credits and carbon farming have become a widespread tool for addressing climate change. Agricultural carbon credits enable farmers to be rewarded for sequestering and avoiding carbon. This research project measures the impact of one such agricultural carbon credit program in the context of Egyptian agriculture.
The Economy of Love (EoL) standard, developed and owned by the Egyptian Biodynamic Association (EBDA), enables farmers to receive income through carbon reduction and sequestration activities, such as afforestation, reforestation, soil carbon sequestration, the use of renewable energy on farms, and compost production. The EoL program aims to provide farmers with fair compensation for environmental and carbon reduction services. As such, this evaluation will measure the social, environmental and economic benefits of the holistic EoL carbon program for Egyptian smallholder farmers.
