Public Housing and Crime
This project will estimate the causal impact of receiving public housing on the propensity to commit crime and on the incidence of domestic violence in both the short and long term. To do so, our project is a follow-up to a randomized experiment in Colombia that occurred in 2012-2015 whereby individuals were randomly assigned into public housing. Our follow-up aims to collect individual-level criminal and prosecution records to obtain crime outcomes for individuals aged 14 and older and identify victims of domestic violence. This research, then, will answer the following research question:
1) What is the causal impact of public housing receipt on the propensity to commit crime in both the short and long terms?
2) What is the causal impact of public housing receipt on domestic violence in both the short and long terms?
