Vocational Training, On-the-Job Training, and Resilience to the Covid-19 Shock

This project studies how different types of skills training programs increase resilience to the economic shock caused by Covid-19. We build on an existing RCT, which evaluates the impacts of vocational training and on-the-job training on youth employment in Uganda. In Alfonsi et al (2020) we show that both interventions had positive impacts over a three-year period, especially vocational training. In Bandiera et al (2020) we show that skills training also changes job search strategies. We will collect two high-frequency surveys eight years after treatment, to study how these interventions help workers weather the shock, and to evaluate their longer-term impacts.
