Matthew Edmundson

From 2023 to early 2026, Matt supported J-PAL's worldwide efforts to catalyze the scaling of evidence-informed programs as Evidence to Scale Lead. He led various engagements with J-PAL regional offices and supported specific scale-ups, such as a targeted chlorine vouchers program with J-PAL Africa and an innovative math curriculum for preschool and early primary students with J-PAL South Asia. He also supported J-PAL research affiliates, drafted world-wide scaling frameworks, and led projects with FCDO, Gavi, the vaccine alliance, among other organizations.

Prior to joining J-PAL, Matt co-founded and served for 10 years as Co-President for Violet Health, a nutrition-focused social enterprise in Bangalore, India. Violet Health develops, clinically tests, and launches novel food supplements for malnourished populations. At Violet Health Matt oversaw clinical trials and randomized control trials with NGO and government partners. He also led successful fundraising efforts from USAID, the Gates Foundation, Grand Challenges Canada, and other foundations and private investors.

Prior to Violet Health, Matt served as Operations Officer for RefugePoint, a Kenya-based non-profit that develops health and safety programs to serve at-risk refugees. In the role, Matt worked across East, Central, and Southern Africa.

Matt holds an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business and a BA in Economics from Tufts University.
