Research Associate, J-PAL South Asia

Samriti Chowdhury is a Research Associate at J-PAL South Asia, where she is working on the evaluation of a technology-focused labor market intervention. Her work supports the implementation of a rigorous impact evaluation to test how upskilling improves the lives of young tech graduates across Maharashtra and North India.

Prior to joining J-PAL, Samriti worked with international development research organizations and consultancies across Germany and Belgium, contributing to projects for the World Bank and United Nations. Seeking a deeper understanding of development challenges and their local context, she returned to India to work more closely with communities and grassroots development initiatives.

Samriti's interest in development economics and randomized evaluations was sparked by the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, which highlighted the potential of rigorous evidence to improve development policy and practice. She holds a master's degree in economics from the University of Mannheim in Germany and a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Calcutta.
