Research Associate , J-PAL South Asia
Malavika Divakaran is a Research Associate at J-PAL South Asia (Chennai). She works on the Tamil Nadu Early Childhood Education Project (TNECE), which aims to improve primary education standards in government schools in Tamil Nadu and consequently shift primary school student enrollment from private to the public sector by implementing LKG/UKG classes in Anganwadi centers in Tamil Nadu. Malavika manages the research cycle of TNECE. She liaisons with government staff at the Department of Elementary Education and the Department of Social Welfare and oversees data collection activities from field operations to field staff and performs data management tasks to ensure successful execution of the study.
Prior to joining JPAL in 2019, she worked in a similar capacity with IFMR Lead in India and Populations Services International in Madagascar. Before entering the research sector, Malavika worked in social services with an adolescent maternal health and parenting program in the USA and and community development organization in Haiti. She holds a master's in public health from the University of South Florida and a bachelor's in international studies from Birmingham-Southern College.
