Engy Elshahawy
Senior Research Associate, J-PAL Middle East and North Africa
Engy Elshahawy is a Senior Research Associate at J-PAL Middle East and North Africa, where she works on evaluating the impact of regular wellbeing monitoring on deterring abusive employer behavior and reducing harassment and exploitation of refugee domestic workers. She is also working on evaluating the environmental, economic, and social impact of the Economy of Love Program and Carbon Credit Certification.
Prior to joining J-PAL in 2025, Engy worked as a Research and Technical Executive at Enroot Consultancy, conducting various socio-economic studies, labor market assessments, and dipstick studies focusing on women’s empowerment, youth empowerment, and rural development. She also worked as a Public Finance Intern at the International Labour Organization in Geneva, where she contributed to updating the ILO handbook on fiscal space and social protection.
Engy holds a double Master’s degree in Public Policy and Human Development from Maastricht University and United Nations University, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The British University in Egypt.
