Research Associate, J-PAL South Asia

Nutan Satpathy is a Research Associate at J-PAL South Asia, working on the Judicial State Capacity and AI project in Odisha. The project examines whether Artificial Intelligence can help reduce delays and improve the performance of courts in India where she oversees the RCT implementation.

Earlier in 2025, she served as a Research Consultant at J-PAL on the Flexibility at the Workplace and Contract Choice study in Odisha and the pilot Encouraging Skilling and Employment Opportunities for Female Rural-to-Urban Migrant Workers, overseeing field operations.

Prior to joining J-PAL, Nutan worked as a Project Associate at the Bharti Institute of Public Policy, Indian School of Business, under the ENACTS initiative on agriculture–nutrition convergence, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. She contributed to field research, multi-stakeholder coordination, and policy documentation, including co-authoring the flagship report Odisha Millets Mission: A Transition to a Just Food System.

Nutan holds a B.A. (Hons.) in Psychology from Ravenshaw University.
