Biometric Tracking Of School Attendance And Human Capital Formation Of Pupils: Evidence From Rural Schools In Nigeria

This project explores how biometric attendance systems can reduce absenteeism among teachers and students in rural Nigerian schools and improve learning outcomes. Centered on primary schools in Osun State, the proposed intervention involves using fingerprint scanners to record daily attendance and strengthen accountability within the education system. The research aims to assess the feasibility of deploying biometric tools in low-resource settings, identify implementation challenges related to logistics and privacy, and build the foundation for a future pilot evaluation that will measure the impact of biometric tracking on teacher presence and student learning.
