Community Water And Sanitation Agency Smart Taps In Northern Ghana

This project examines whether digitizing community water payments can improve service delivery and resource management in rural Ghana. In partnership with the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, researchers are testing the use of Smart Taps, digital water dispensers that replace manual cash payments with electronic transactions, in randomly selected communities across Northern Ghana. The study aims to assess the feasibility, usability, and operational design of digital payment systems for water access, while exploring their potential to strengthen transparency, efficiency, and sustainability in rural water management. Insights from this work will guide the design of a larger-scale randomized evaluation.
