Digital Input Value Chains and Farmer Credit: A proposal in collaboration with the Rwandan Agricultural Board

Smallholder farmers face limited access to credit, which restricts their ability to purchase essential inputs such as fertilizers and seeds. How might digital lending unlock access to credit for smallholder farmers?  This project aims to investigate how digitization of the farm inputs value chain can inform a more inclusive approach to how smallholder farmers in Rwanda access credit and other financial services. By tapping into an existing digital platform that tracks fertilizer purchases, this project seeks to develop a credit scoring system that allows smallholder farmers in Rwanda to access loans suited to the agricultural cycle.
