Digital Payment Solution to Incentivize Rural Health Extension Workers in Ethiopia
Currently, many Health Extension Workers (HEWs) in rural Ethiopia face challenges accessing their payments due to limited financial infrastructure and long distances to financial service centers, which negatively impacts job satisfaction, retention, and healthcare service delivery. This proposal explores the implementation of a digital payment system to improve the remuneration process for HEWs. By introducing mobile money systems, this project aims to address these logistical challenges and enhance the motivation of HEWs. The study will investigate key factors such as digital literacy, infrastructure challenges, and the impact of mobile payments on HEWs’ performance and financial inclusion. Insights from this research are expected to improve health outcomes in rural Ethiopia by facilitating more efficient payment systems and fostering digital finance adoption.
