Research Associate, J-PAL Africa

Michaela is a Research Associate at J-PAL Africa, where she works in the Water, Air, and Energy Lab in collaboration with the City of Cape Town. 

Before joining J-PAL Africa, Michaela worked as a consultant in the Human Development Practice at Genesis Analytics, for almost three years. In her time at Genesis, Michaela worked across the sectors of youth opportunity, education, public financial management, early childhood development, and social protection. She served as a technical analyst on projects for clients including UNICEF, the World Bank, and the National Education Collaboration Trust. During these projects, Michaela conducted cost-benefit analyses, evaluated social protection programmes, and conducted a public expenditure review. Her experience spans countries including South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, and Jordan. 

Michaela holds an MSc in Economic Policy for International Development from the London School of Economics. She also holds an Honour's degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Commerce in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, both from the University of Cape Town.
