Global Health and Development Director - Rethink Priorities

Summary of Organization: Rethink Priorities is a research and implementation group that identifies pressing opportunities to make the world better. We act upon these opportunities by developing and implementing strategies, projects and solutions to key issues. We do this work in close partnership with foundations and impact-focused non-profits.

Our work covers important and neglected cause areas, including animal welfare, artificial intelligence, climate change, global health and development, and other work to safeguard a flourishing long-term future.

Summary of the Role: We are seeking a Director to join the Global Health and Development (GHD) Department at Rethink Priorities, ideally around June 2024. The GHD Department typically carries out short research projects, often commissioned by philanthropic organizations and other relevant actors in the global health and development space.

Responsibilities:

Improving strategy and execution of projects, programs, causes and the department overall (e.g., overseeing the team as they conduct secondary research, leading/coordinating projects, leading the team’s strategy processes, contributing to sharpening RP's "big-picture" strategy).

Leading fundraising efforts and client relationship maintenance (e.g., outreach to existing and potential clients/stakeholders, participating in grant application processes).

Keeping generally abreast of developments to best contribute to strategy and execution, or important research (e.g., staying up-to-date in areas of interest to the department and to optimize RP's strategy).

Reporting and managing staff (e.g., managing other GHD managers, leading hiring/staffing efforts in the department, providing constructive feedback).Qualifications:This position is ideal for someone who is interested in overseeing secondary research on a wide range of topics, the potential to have a positive impact through their work, working in a collaborative environment, having project lead/management responsibilities.
