Dates: September 1, 2024 – July 31, 2025. Full time (35 hours per week)

Based in Paris

Luc Behaghel, professor at PSE, is offering a research assistant position for the next academic year that can serve as a “pre-doc” year. The pre-doc will be involved in an experimental health economics project, through the final analysis of an interactive education platform, for patients with end-stage renal disease. In addition, the pre-doc will be involved on various projects in labor economics and economics of education, for instance a project on study choices by French students after high school (RCT conducted with Marc Gurgand, Louis Gleyo, Marie Andreescu and Vivien Liu), and a correspondence study on the labor demand for older workers (joint with Joyce Sultan and Marie Andreescu). He/she might also work on a large RCT on the uptake of formal mental health care by Ukrainian refugees in Germany (joint project with German and Ukrainian psychiatrists, and economists including Esther Duflo, Yagan Hazard, and Artur Obminski). Depending on skills and tastes, he/she might also work on theoretical econometrics, in particular on interference effects in experimental and quasi-experimental designs (joint with Yagan Hazard and Toru Kitagawa).

As these projects are at very different stages (from the protocol design to paper writing and submission), the pre-doc will be exposed to different steps of research projects. He/She will work with different research teams and benefit from PSE’s unique environment, in particular the possibility to attend internal and external seminars in many different fields. As such, this year can be an opportunity to mature and prepare for research in PhD.

Tasks:

The research assistant will work closely with researchers, in particular Luc Behaghel, on the following tasks:

  1. Data analysis using statistical software (R or Stata in particular).
  2. Project management: planning, communication with implementing partners.
  3. Implementation and coordination of various tasks involved in a correspondence studies (CV preparation, sending applications).
  4. Short literature reviews on specific topics, in search of new ideas at project design state, and to put contributions in perspectives at later stage.

Skills required:

  • Fluent in French
  • Training in economics (completed M2)
  • Good programming skills. Proficient use of Stata and/or R software Python would be a plus
  • Rigor in data management
  • Autonomy

Organization of Work:

The job is based in Paris, mostly at PSE. A salary will be paid according to the pre-doc qualification.
